For anyone who knows Cody, it would not come as a shock that this story began on an airplane. So, the story goes, the pilot and flight attendant met on a trip to nowhere important and fell in love. Cody would say that it was the perfect medium-rare steak that he grilled our second night together. It just as easily could have been the endless two-stepping videos he watched when we met because I told him once that I liked to dance. Or that when my mom asked if I thought Cody would open the car door before our first date, I answered yes without thought or hesitation. That type of sureness is something that I’ve always had with Cody and makes it nearly impossible to pinpoint just one thing that made me fall for him.

Our first trip together took place in Helen, Georgia. We cruised top-down in his E93 M3 up to his parents’ quaint cabin, where we will officially be tying the knot. As a longtime lover of the mountains and German food, nobody could have planned a more perfect trip for me. What made it even better was that Cody had no idea at that point what I liked. The rest of our relationship has continued to play out that way, leading up to the engagement.

As a little girl, I had big dreams of moving to the city, prancing around Central Park in beautiful clothes with a man who loves me. This was something I had never even voiced to Cody. Somehow, he has always had a sort of X-ray vision. He could stare directly into my soul and find my deepest wants without even trying (he actually tends to do a better job when he’s not trying). Cody proposed in front of the Gapstow Bridge and whisked me up to the top floor of the Tiffany Landmark like I was a modern-day Audrey Hepburn.
